The educational landscape in Macau is changing for the better: Ana Correia

The Bishop Domingos Lam Centre for Research in Education was created three years ago with the purpose of fostering research focused on education and educational development in Macau, but the Covid-19 pandemic led to the cancellation or suspension of several of the projects in which the organization was involved. Restructured one year after it was founded, the Centre elected inclusive education as one of its main focus of research. O Clarim spoke with Ana Correia, an expert in special and inclusive education and current director of the Bishop Domingos Lam Centre for Research in Education.

Joy amidst crisis: 3 children receive First Holy Communion in Taipa as Covid-19 looms, Cathedral cancels ceremony for 15 others

Three children received the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist for the first time at the Church of Our Lady of Carmel in Taipa on Sunday, June 12th. The ongoing Covid-19 outbreak, however, put a damper on the ceremony at the Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady for 15 other children as restrictions were imposed. Masses and other public religious celebrations were suspended in all local churches.

“After serving communities in the Amazon rainforest, Macau was like a new beginning”: Fr Rafael Vigolo

Born in Brazil, Rafael Gemelli Vigolo graduated in mechanical engineering before he decided to follow God’s call. A former missionary in Peru and in the far reaches of the Brazilian Amazon, the Comboni priest arrived in Macau two and a half years ago, shortly before the Covid-19 pandemic forced the Special Administrative Region to isolate itself from the rest of the world. Currently the Vicar of Saint Francis Xavier parish in Mong Ha, Father Vigolo found in Macau a way of living and celebrating the Catholic faith, which is very different from what he was used to in Latin America. The Brazilian missionary found himself surrounded with a vibrant community but also with very specific issues. One of the most challenging, he emphasizes, is the spiritual accompaniment of the younger generations after the end of their catechetical formation. Father Rafael Vigolo spoke with O Clarim….

Battle of Macau’s 400th anniversary celebrations to commence with Mass on Festa de Sao Joao

The International Institute of Macau and several other local organizations join forces to celebrate the quatercentenary of the ‘Battle of Macau’, which coincides with the feast of Saint John the Baptist – the city’s patron saint – on June 24th. The commemoration of the historical event will continue with lectures, conferences and a cultural soirée after the initial thanksgiving Mass at the Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady.
