Battle of Macau’s 400th anniversary celebrations to commence with Mass on Festa de Sao Joao

The International Institute of Macau and several other local organizations join forces to celebrate the quatercentenary of the ‘Battle of Macau’, which coincides with the feast of Saint John the Baptist – the city’s patron saint – on June 24th. The commemoration of the historical event will continue with lectures, conferences and a cultural soirée after the initial thanksgiving Mass at the Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady.

Practical theology: Ricci Institute to discuss sustainability and business integrity

More than the money: Elderly now convinced about Covid-19 jabs, says Caritas

Caritas Macau was one of eight associations and organizations recruited by the government to help with the vaccination drive aimed at senior citizens. To boost vaccination rates, the Macau Foundation grants a 250 pataca voucher to residents over 65 who have already received two shots of the Covid-19 jab. The Secretary General of Caritas claims that money is not, however, the reason why an increasing number of elderly are choosing to get vaccinated.

USJ’s new digital platform ‘Portuguese in Sight’ may be game changer for second language students

The University of Saint Joseph will launch on Monday its first digital platform aimed at Portuguese language learners. Christened Português à Vista, or Portuguese in Sight, it aspires to be a valuable resource for students studying Portuguese as a second language. South Korean priest on mission to get St Lawrence’s youth back to church

This is the dilemma that one of Macau’s oldest parishes currently faces. In the parish of Saint Lawrence, involving the younger generations in the liturgical life of the local Catholic communion has proved to be a challenge. Born in South Korea and facing the conundrum, Father James Ryu Jae Hyoung wants to better understand what worries and motivates young people in the parish. Nevertheless, there is hope: twenty children will celebrate their First Communion on June 19th.
