In this Christmas season, I wish to invite you to meditate particularly on the family of the Little Jesus who lived in Nazareth. Although the Holy Family is a small, poor and quiet family, the light of goodness and peace and joy that radiates from there shines in every corner of the world, to the amazement and envy of all.

Students go Christmas carolling at Senado Square

A group of students will sing Christmas carols in Senado Square on Christmas Eve, the first-ever initiative promoted by the newly established Diocesan Youth Commission. Officially instituted at the end of November, the new Commission replaces the now extinct Diocesan Pastoral Youth Centre and inherits the mission of coordinating “the ministry of youth in the Diocese of Macau.”

Fu Hong. Fighting barriers and stigma with art

The prolonged economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic forced Macau charities to work things out and devise mechanisms and strategies to generate their own revenues. The local non-profit-organizations are increasingly dependent on their own abilities. In the case of the Fu Hong Society, the gifts and products designed by the institution’s users have always been an important source of income, but the impossibility of selling them in broad, public campaigns has hindered the success of Fu Hong’s self financing efforts.

Simbang Gabi – a tradition dating back to the 8th century Rorate Mass

The Simbang Gabi was not actually conceived in the Philippines. It traces its roots to the so-called Rorate Masses in Europe that date back to the 8th century, when there was a custom of celebrating Masses in honor of our Lady in the time of Advent. These Masses were called “Rorate Masses” because the entrance antiphon began with the words  “Rorate caeli désuper et nubes pluant justum” (“Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just”).

Cardinal Newman Center celebrates 1st anniversary with Winter Concert

To celebrate its first anniversary, the Centro de Cultura e Artes Performativas Cardeal Newman de Macau (CCCN – Cardinal Newman Center of Culture and Performing Arts of Macau)  held “Four Seasons – Winter Concert” on 4th December 2021, with the participation of students from various high schools in Macau and professional performers from local orchestras and cultural associations. The theme of the concert was the festive season of Christmas but it was also meant to showcase music from East and West covering a variety of genres from traditional Chinese music to modern jazz to Portuguese music.
