Oh Most Blessed Virgin,
Mother of Jesus and our Mother!
Your Son’s love for us was so great
that He wanted to remain in the Eucharist.
And You, Virgin Mary, gave Him
flesh of your flesh and blood of your blood,
for our nourishment.
Virgin of the Eucharist,
who carries the Child, who is the Body,
holding the grapes, which will become the Blood,
pour in us your love so we may receive Him
with purity, humility and devotion.
Assist us so we become, through your intercession,
men and women who love the Eucharist.
Grant me the favor of… (make your request)
Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory.
(Prayer from Fr Salvador Fornieles)
ABOUT THE IMAGE
Our Lady of the Eucharist is a tempera on wood panel painting by Sandro Botticelli made c. 1470. The wheat and grapes are symbolic of the bread and wine of the Eucharist, which themselves symbolise the body and blood of the incarnate Jesus, and the number of ears possibly refer to the number of the apostles at the Last Supper.
