CHRIST IN THE LITTLE CITY – Feast of Corpus Christi and Eucharistic Procession

The faith communities and parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Macau celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi on Sunday June 22, 2025. Such religious events always stand out as an important and unforgettable experience for parishioners and visitors alike. At the Cathedral Parish of the Nativity of Our Lady, the celebration started on the eve of the solemnity on June 21, highlighted with an overnight adoration at the Colégio Diocesano de São José 3 school hall and ended with a procession and benediction at the church of Santo Domingos in the afternoon of the feast day. This public demonstration of love and faith is one of the strongest evangelistic celebrations in the life of the Church. Macao Catholic Parishes often tailored celebrations to their communities. Some held brief processions around church grounds, while others organized Eucharistic adoration. These variations kept Corpus Christi vibrant in the faith communities in Macao, ensuring it resonated with diverse communities present in the parishes.

The Feast of Corpus Christi (traditionally celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday), recalls how Jesus instituted this Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist on Maundy Thursday. Thomas Aquinas considered the Eucharist to be the greatest of all sacraments. Thus, it is fitting that such a feast exists to specially commemorate the Eucharist. The Catechism summarizes this teaching of the importance of the Eucharist: The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” “The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch.” (1324)
