GoGoChart Technology, an IT company based in Hong Kong, and MSS Recruitment from Macau, were the joint overall winners of the inaugural edition of the Deignan Award for Responsible Entrepreneurship. This new Corporate Social Responsibility accolade was established by the Ricci Institute of Macau and the WooFoo Foundation to recognize small and medium-sized enterprises that have gone the extra mile in adopting responsible business practices guided by values such as sustainability and social justice.

The first-ever Deignan Award was endowed on March 25 in a ceremony held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. One of the recipients was MSS Recruitment, which has been operating in Macau since 2008 and was awarded the Deignan Golden Award for its outstanding adoption and implementation of sustainable practices, both in environmental and social aspects. The jury recognized the company as a reference in responsible entrepreneurship.

In neighbouring Hong Kong, the Macau Ricci Institute and the WooFoo Foundation bestowed the highest accolade of the Deignan Award to GoGoChart Technology, an IT company that offers flexible mobile marketing solutions. The company’s products and services were not the sole basis for their recognition by the Deignan Award jury. The crucial criterion was the support that GoGoChart Technology provides to young people in need, demonstrating the enterprise’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.

The example set by the awarded companies should serve as a guiding model for the future profile of the Deignan Award: “It is an important factor for the further development of the Deignan Award that some of the winners of the prize already agreed to be involved in training seminars. It is truly amazing to see that besides the well-known great achievements of C&C Lawyers, relatively young companies such as MSS Recruitment and Macao Newland Technology made enormous contributions, especially to people who were left behind by the crisis,” Father Stephen Rothlin, president of the Steering Committee of the Deignan Award, told O Clarim.

THE WINNERS

HONG KONG REGION

MACAU REGION

“I was particularly touched by the testimonial of the CEO of GoGoChart Company, the winner of the Deignan Award in Hong Kong, when he explained how they go out of their way in order to support young people and provide them with help, even if, sometimes, their effort apparently fails. This process will certainly help to shape the profile of the Deignan award in the spirit of dialogue and friendship that was promoted by Matteo Ricci,” the Swiss missionary adds.
The inaugural edition of the Deignan Award in Macau recognized law firm C&C, MSS Recruitment, and Macao Newland Technology for their outstanding contribution to social justice and commitment to sustainable practices. In Hong Kong, Sunta Chemical, a company that supplies plastic raw materials, received the Deignan Silver Award, while Farmacy HK Limited was awarded the bronze.

Encouraged by the success of the inaugural edition of the Deignan Award, the Macau Ricci Institute is already working on the second edition of the initiative.

“I am already connecting with our main stakeholders in order to make an evaluation of the first Deignan award and figure out if it would be possible to aim at a second edition. Personally, I do hope that I could swiftly follow up on the success of the first Deignan award and organize the second edition next year, in order not to lose momentum and to build up a solid foundation in the critical first three years so that we can develop a clear profile of the award,” Father Rothlin concludes.
