According to the Catholic site Foros de la Virgen María, the new film by director Mel Gibson about the Resurrection of Christ will be released next year. The film is part of the continuity of the cinematographic work of the director of The Passion of Christ which was released in theatres in 2004 and won the hearts of Christians around the world.

The same team has been working on the sequel to the Passion movie, which will be called The Passion of Christ: The Resurrection. The site says that the new film will be released in 2022, and will deal, step by step, with the events that led to the Resurrection and the experience of the Apostles. Mel Gibson said that the narrative period for the film will be very short, the three days from 3 pm on Good Friday until Easter Sunday. Everything unfolds from where the movie The Passion of Christ ends, after the Lord’s body is laid in the tomb.

Foros de la Virgen María claims that the filming of the new movie will take place in Israel, Morocco and some parts of Europe, including Italy; and that many of the actors who were in the previous film will be the same: Maia Morgenstern, who played the Virgin Mary, Christo Jivkov, who played Pilate, and Francesco De Vito, who played Saint Peter. Actor Jim Caviezel said that it is very important to make this film now because the current film industry ignores biblical movies.

Acidigital agency reported in 2018 an interview with Jim Caviezel, that the actor said that the new film will be “the greatest film in history.” Caviezel, a fervent Catholic, has confirmed that he will – again – play Jesus of Nazareth.

The same news agency had already mentioned that Caviezel, in an interview carried out in Poland by journalist and film critic Lukasz Adamski, showed his enthusiasm for the project: “I want to work with Gibson again. This time it will be a movie about the resurrection. If The Passion of Christ inspired so many people to do good, why not try again? I feel once again that there is a purpose in my life.”

Jim Caviezel has repeatedly said publicly that the role of Jesus was the most demanding he played in all respects, even risking his life during filming. Caviezel, having incarnated the humanity of Christ to the “death” on the cross, said, “there is nothing more glorious and humiliating at the same time,” there is “nothing” that could “teach me better humility.”
