Last Saturday, June 22, 2019, the English-speaking community of the Macau Cathedral spent some time in adoration on the vigil of the solemnity of Corpus Christi at the Colégio Diocesano de São José 2 & 3. It was a humid afternoon yet a number of them managed to come and join the Vigil.
Saturday is a workday for the majority in the English-speaking community. Nevertheless, those who were able to come were able to offer a meaningful adoration to the Holy Eucharist. The prayerful atmosphere echoed the Eucharistic discourse of Jesus in John 6:40: “Indeed, this is the will of My Heavenly Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son and believes in Him, shall have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day.”
Several other groups within the Cathedral community and from other parishes of the Diocese of Macau also participated in the overnight vigil.
The occasion was also an opportunity for the English-speaking community of the cathedral to grow in Eucharistic devotion. Quite a number of them were not yet aware that there is a daily Eucharistic adoration chapel inside the cathedral from 8:15 AM to 8:00 PM, closing only during scheduled Masses. Through the Eucharistic Adoration with exposition we proclaim to our faith community that outside the Mass, Jesus continues to be truly present among us. Pope John Paul II said, “Your faith will help you to realize that it is Jesus Himself who is present in the Blessed Sacrament, waiting for you and calling you to spend one special specific hour with Him each week.”
