MAGNA CHARTA UNIVERSITATUM – USJ becomes one among 800 signatories

USJ has signed the Magna Charta Universitatum, a reference document that includes the signature of more than 800 universities.

The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) is one of the newest signatories of the Magna Charta Universitatum, a reference document for the values, principles and objectives of universities. The first time this document was signed was on the 18th of September 1988, in Bologna. At the time, 388 rectors signed the document, marking the increased awareness of the crucial role universities have in the development and internationalisation of society.

In the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Magna Charta Universitatum on 18th of September 2018, USJ confirmed its adherence. In this year’s edition of the annual event, 73 universities of 29 countries signed the document, which means the document, currently, has the backing of over 800 universities.

The event was held at the University of Salamanca, in Spain, also in commemoration of the 800th anniversary of the university, and included the presence of distinguished guests such as their royal highnesses King Felipe VI of Spain and the Queen Letizia.
