Croatia is an international sensation at this moment, with the historic accomplishment achieved by the country in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
In recent days, the people of the Catholic Croatia have created another social media favorite: that of their 25-kuna coin, whose commemorative edition issued in 2000, brought the image of an unborn baby that has now touched the world .
Croatian site Kunalipa, dedicated to numismatics, informs about this special coin, launched at the turn of the millennium: “The fetus is a universal symbol of human life, which is the center of the millennium and that determines the new millennium that begins.”
The baby represented in the coin with 12 “sides”, is in its 12 weeks of gestation and is with the thumb in the mouth. In the drawing, one can still see its umbilical cord. Around the child, rays of sunlight complete the beautiful image, an evocation of the splendor and value of life to be protected.
In spite of this public manifestation of the the value of human life in its most fragile and volatile period, Croatia has legalized abortion since 1978, when the country was still part of the former ex-Yugoslavia, then a socialist dictatorship. The supreme Croatian court considered in 2017 that this law is constitutional, although it was promulgated before the country’s independence, but set a two-year deadline for the government to review it.
Since then, the pro-life movement has intensified in Croatia, which has already held two national marches in defense of the unborn child.
THE NUMBERS IN THE SCRIPTURES
The twelve “sides” of the coin, the 12 weeks of gestation – Number 12 and 7 appear very often in the Scriptures. The opening of the Gospel of St John takes place in the inaugural week, the seven days of creation, followed by seven signs, the Bread of Life discourse in which the word Bread appears, 7 times …
In the apocalypse of John we find the letter to the 7 Churches, the 7 bowls, the 7 seals, etc. All these numbers have a meaning.
The number 12 is considered the perfect number, it indicates the maximum of perfection. There are 12 tribes of Israel that form the People of God in the Old Testament; and the 12 Apostles in the New Testament who form the new Israel, the People of God of the New Covenant.
