Last year, on the 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the first major step towards post-WWII long-lasting peace, Pope Francis said it had led to “the long period of stability and peace (in Europe) from which we benefit today”.
While popes in the past have performed the consecration stipulated by Our Lady at Fatima to varying degrees, Pope Francis’ forthcoming consecration comes the closest to meeting the specifics of the Blessed Mother’s request and may prove fortuitous.
His trip was noticed, accidentally, by news agency Rome Reports, and the video and a photograph went viral. Their director, Javier Martinez-Brocal, said he was waiting for a friend at a taxi stand, when he saw a small car with Vatican number plates. It was parked outside an old record shop, notably, with police cars around. That caught his attention.

Only if we recover our ‘taste’ for adoration will our desire be rekindled. Desire leads us to adoration and adoration renews our desire. In a radio interview with Spanish COPE, Pope Francis told how nurses saved his life – twice, recently, and in 1957. The Pope talked too about his recovery from surgery, his home confinement, and revealed too what and who helped bring about Laudato Si’.
According to the Italian newspaper Il Tempo, Pope Francis has recently been “negotiating with the Taliban through Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to open humanitarian corridors that would allow the thousands of refugees in Afghanistan to flee safely.”
