Starting from April or, at the latest, from May, the Macau Catholic Culture Association’s (ACCM) premises at Rua Formosa will offer an extra floor for exhibition purposes, Joni Cheng, the organization’s executive director, told O Clarim.
The Association’s headquarters is currently undergoing a major expansion, so that it can accommodate and promote a larger number of cultural events and activities. Due to the ongoing renovation works, the ACCM’s office moved to a temporary location, right across the street: “During the renovation, the office of the Macau Catholic Culture Association will be relocated to the third floor of the Diocesan Centre. Our temporary office will remain there until the completion of the upgrading project,” Cheng said. “Thanks to the ongoing expansion works, starting from April or in May, at the latest, we will have an extra floor at our disposal. We will make use of the second floor as an extended exhibition space or to organize workshops or other kinds of cultural activities,” she added.
Since it was founded in 2018, the Macau Catholic Culture Association has organized several emblematic and well-succeeded exhibitions and has acquired an unparalleled status in Macau’s cultural panorama, by demonstrating there is space and demand in the Special Administrative Region for a pastoral approach to culture and for art events or artistic manifestations of Catholic origin. The ongoing renovation works left the Association with little or no room to promote new exhibitions for the next couple of months, but some of the exhibits that ACCM has organized in the last few months are still doing the rounds at local schools.
The Eucharistic Miracles of the World International Exhibition, for instance, is currently on display at Saint Paul School until February 17: “To continue the promotion of the ‘Eucharistic Miracles of the World’ International Exhibition in Macau, the Macau Catholic Culture Association continues its school exhibition tour in 2023. The exhibition will be on display at Escola São Paulo until February 17,” Cheng said.
The opening ceremony was held on January 10 at Escola São Paulo, and was officiated by St. Dominic Priory, Macau, Prior Fr. Javier Gonzalez Izquiedo., O.P; Escola São Paulo Principal Fr. Athanasius Chen., O.P; Escola São Paulo Chaplain Fr. Lawrence The REH., O.P; Ms Tai Lai Kan and Mr Wong Man Hang, directors of the Board of Escola São Paulo, and Cheng, herself, in her role as executive director.
“In addition, the same exhibitions will be exhibited at Santa Rosa de Lima English Secondary School during the same period,” Cheng added.
