Bishop Stephen Lee led the Diocese of Macau in offering prayers for the nation on Sunday, 29 September 2019. The prayer was held with the Exposition and Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament. During the Exposition, the Second Vespers of Sunday was chanted, led by Bishop Lee and Fr Cyril Law. Seminarians took turns in leading the intercessory prayers in Chinese, Portuguese, and English.
Bishop Lee used the reading from the Second Vespers to begin his homily, which was taken from Saint Paul’s Second Letter to the Thessalonians (2:13-14) where it says, “We feel that we must be continually thanking God for you, brothers whom the Lord loves, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved by the sanctifying Spirit and by faith in the truth. Through the Good News that we brought he called you to this so that you should share the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
He spoke about the need to always give thanks, and through one’s life, make others know the “glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
He explained that love of country comes from commandment of loving God and loving others, in particular, it comes from the commandment to honor one’s parents: filial piety.
He encouraged everyone to appreciate the gifts that God has given to China.
Finally, he exhorted the faithful to pray for the nation’s leaders, so that God may give them the wisdom to bring about justice, peace and well-being.
