The Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady in union with all Franciscan Orders and Congregations, will celebrate St. Francis of Assisi on 4th October with a Mass at 7:00 PM, presided by His Most Reverend Bishop Stephen Lee. The joint choirs of “Peace and Good” and the alumni of St Joseph’s Seminary will sing during the Eucharistic celebration.
The Congregation of the Franciscans of Calais, founded in the 19th century, traces its roots back to the Middle Ages.
Since 1965, the Congregation has been named Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady. Currently the Congregation is on four continents: Europe, Africa, Asia, and America in 16 countries (France, Portugal, Ireland, United States of America, Haiti, Argentina, Brazil, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa, Angola, São Tomé e Príncipe, Macao and East Timor).
The spirituality of the Franciscan Family is to live the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the manner of Francis of Assisi. An “open-eyed” spirituality to discover and embrace today’s lepers… Trinitarian love animates our fraternal life, the source and strength that sustains us in our mission.
The medal summarizes the name and mission of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady. It shows our Lady, Queen and Mother of the Franciscan Family and of our Congregation.
It shows the Tau, the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Similar to the cross, for Francis of Assisi, the Tau is a sign of penance and renewal, a sign of following Christ, the poor, the Servant, a sign of his love being crucified. It is also a symbol of peace. Tau speaks of our belonging to the Franciscan Family. Making the Franciscan Spirit present through unity and communion is our reason for being and being in the Church and in the world.
