Visits to schools and charitable institutions, prayer meetings, Eucharistic Adoration and a hike in Coloane. These are some of the initiatives that the Macau Diocesan Youth Commission will organize in the upcoming weeks. Instead of being confined to a single afternoon, this year’s Diocesan Youth Day will be commemorated as a month-long celebration.
The Diocesan Youth Commission is planning on visiting, over the next few weeks, several local Catholics schools, with the aim of promoting the charism, Christian virtues and examples of holiness of Saint Carlo Acutis and Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati. The two young saints were canonized by Pope Leo XIV on September, 7th.
The initiative is one among the many activities that the Diocesan Youth Commission plans to organize to commemorate the Diocesan Youth Day. The event has been remodeled this year. Rather than being boiled down to a single day, the local World Youth Day celebrations will give rise to a month-long celebration, with different sorts of activities taking place: “We will offer the youth of Macau three very distinct kind of activities. Over the next few weeks, we will organize visits to different Catholics schools to introduce two newly canonized saints – Saint Carlo Acutis and Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati – to the students. This is the first activity we will organize”, Tammy Chio told “O Clarim”. “Next month, on November 15th, we will have an outdoor activity. We will join forces with the Bosco Youth Services Network and organize a hike in Coloane. We have also contacted various charitable and welfare associations, such as Caritas, to arrange visits to their facilities. We want to offer the local youth the possibility to learn about the type of work these organizations do”, the vice-president of the Diocesan Youth Commission adds.
A prayer meeting directed to young people aged 13 to 35 kicked off, on Saturday, the month-long celebration of the 2025 Diocesan Youth Day. The event took place on Saint Joseph the Worker’s Church, in Iao Hon, with a particular focus on Eucharistic Adoration.
On November 8th, the Diocesan Youth Commission will commemorate the Holy Souls in Purgatory with a visit to Saint Michael’s Cemetery. There, young people will honor those who have gone before us and pray for the righteous dead awaiting Resurrection.
The Diocesan Youth Day celebrations will reach their apex on November 23rd, the day the Church commemorates the Feast of Christ the King and the 40th edition of the World Youth Day: “This year, the theme of the celebrations is ‘Be a Witness’. As you know, we are also celebrating the Jubilee of Hope and our message to the local youth is that they should strive to be witnesses of hope”, Tammy Chio Chu Cheng explains. “Before the Solemnity of Christ the King, we want to organize a gathering and invite all those who took part in the initiatives. We want them to share what they have learned from these different activities. We want them to exchange perspectives and tell each other about their experiences. The Diocesan Youth Day celebrations will come to an end on the Feast of Christ the King with the celebration of the Eucharist,” the vice-president of the Diocesan Youth Commission adds.
