WITH PETER AND PAUL FOLLOWING THE MASTER – Macau Clergy Celebrates Liturgy in Preparation for the Celebration of the Jubilee of Priests

On March 2, 2025, the clergy of the Catholic Diocese of Macau gathered for the Liturgical celebration in preparation for the Jubilee of Priests in June 2025. The celebration coincides with the recollection, the Macau clergy ordinarily fulfill every month. This Jubilee preparation for clergy of the Diocese of Macau, is not just a celebration but a vital opportunity for the clergy to reflect and journey together this Jubilee year. It emphasizes the importance of their priesthood and mission in fostering a vibrant faith community. The gathering thus described as: “It is a celebratory journey made up of four ‘moments’ or stages of following the Master, taking as our example the apostles Peter and Paul. Following in the footsteps left by the lives of these extraordinary men who are the “pillars of the Church”, and in the light of the magisterium, we will retrace our vocation, our profession of faith, our trials and the life of bearing witness that are common to every man called to priestly ministry.” (Liturgy Guide page3)

The celebration was simple, yet the moment was touching and vibrating through every one of the clergy present.

The Liturgy, organized by Fr Bosco Chan aimed at connecting the hearts of the clergy through prayer, fellowship, and reflection. The readings reconnected them with their spiritual roots, drawing strength from their vocation and the community they serve. This moment of prayer is essential for sustaining their commitment to the Church and its mission.

The prayer celebration is in the form of a series of four celebrations – or stages on the journey – focused on following the apostles Peter and Paul. Tracing the footsteps of those extraordinary men who are the “pillars of the Church”, and, in the light of the Church’s magisterium, the aid retraces four key concepts – vocation, the profession of faith, times of trials, and the life of testimony – stages that are found in the life of every man called to the priesthood.

The Jubilee of Priests from June 25 to 27, 2025, promises to be a transformative event for all priests: “The path proposed here towards the celebration of our priestly Jubilee – which will be marked on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in June 2025 – is an opportunity to return to the principle and foundation of what we are for the Lord and, with Him, for the people of God to whom we are sent.” (Liturgy Guide page 3)

Bishop Lee, in his short reflection he shared at the end of the gathering invited the clergy to participate in the Jubilee as significant occasion, and to pray for more vocations for the Diocese of Macau. He emphasized that: “Together, we can reflect on the vital role of the priesthood and renew our commitment to fostering a vibrant and supportive faith community.”
