The Macau Museum, in Macau Fortress, is hosting the exhibition “Return to the Education with Love” since last weekend. The thematic exhibition brings together historical objects that belonged to the collection of the Stella Matutina School, an inclusive educational establishment that merged into Saint Rose of Lima College in 1975.
The exhibition, which will remain open until October 3rd, brings together historical objects that belonged to the Stella Matutina School or to students who attended that educational institution. Founded in 1953, Stella Matutina distinguished itself from the other schools in Macau over a period of more than two decades for providing free education to children from disadvantaged families, prefiguring itself as “a guiding light for students in their early stages of development,” the Cultural Affairs Bureau writes in a press release.
Divided into four sections – “Relics from the Campus,” “Garden of Learning,” “Traces of Youth” and “Essence of Love” – the exhibition shines light on the former premises of the Stella Matutina School, as well as the way it worked and developed over its 22 years of existence.
Through the exhibition of old manuals, notebooks of former students, exercise books, craft works, photographs of various activities organized by the school, diplomas and certificates, the exhibition aims to recreate the diligent atmosphere that ruled the campus. Among the materials on display are letters exchanged between teachers and students, documents that testify to the lasting friendship that united students and teachers inside and outside the school’s premises.
Sister Brigitte Fan Kuai Long, a former director of Stella Matutina and a group of several former students of the institution, led by Wong I Lin, were present at the opening of the exhibition, which took place last Friday. The event was also attended by several official guests, such as the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian, the director of the Macao Museum, Lou Ho Ian and the Deputy Director of the Propaganda and Culture Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau SAR, Yin Rutao.
The exhibition “Return to the Education with Love” – Exhibition of Historical Objects at the Stella Matutina School will remain open until October 3rd. The Macau Museum opens every day from 10 am to 6 pm, except on Mondays. Macau Resident Identity Card holders enter the premises for free.
