The Macau Catholic Family Advisory Council has been officially entrusted by the Diocese of Macau with the coordination of the celebrations of the “Year of the Family” in the Special Administrative Region. The decision was made during a meeting that took place last Friday, Father Cyril Law told O Clarim.
“It has been proposed in the latest parish priests meeting that the Macau Catholic Family Advisory Council be entrusted with the promotion of the message and activities related to the Year of the Family in Macau,” the Chancellor of the Diocese of Macau said..
Pope Francis announced in late December that the Church will dedicate the coming months to a wider reflection on the role and place of the family. The announcement was made five years after the Supreme Pontiff published the exhortation Amoris Laetitia, a papal reflection on love within the family.
In Macau, the plans for the celebration of the Year of the Family should be known in detail by mid-February. Before the papal announcement, the Diocese intended to celebrate a “Parish Family Day” in October. New initiatives are now being planned, Veronica Po, Secretary-general of the Macau Catholic Family Advisory Council, told O Clarim: “Now we are going to discuss a way to extend the celebrations throughout the Year of the Family. I believe that after this meeting we will be in a position to move forward with other initiatives. I hope that we can have a more detailed plan by mid-February.”
The Year of the Family starts on March 19, the day the Church dedicates to the feast of St Joseph. It will come to a close on June 26th, 2022, during the 10th World Meeting of Families, an event that takes place in Rome.
