PASTORAL CARE FOR FILIPINO MIGRANTS – Easing unemployment pains

Danilo Perez Ngo

The Commission on Social Action of the Pastoral Center for Filipino Migrants located at Francisco Antonio St. No. 48-58, Macau has initiated an outreach program sometime in May 2020 to help and assist migrant workers who have lost their jobs due to the impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic in Macau.

According to the organizers of the outreach, OXFAM is lending them a hand. OXFAM, founded in Great Britain, is a leading international NGO with a worldwide reputation for excellence in the delivery of aid and development work. Its purpose is to work with other NGOs to overcome poverty and suffering.

In addition to OXFAM, there are some Macau residents of different nationalities who give donations like food coupons, groceries such as rice, bread, vegetables, noodles, canned goods, slippers, meat, etc.

The organizers added that the Pastoral Center also donated some amount to ensure there will be sufficient supply of grocery items for distribution every Saturday.

The recipients of the donations are Filipinos, Nepalese, Colombians who have lost their jobs from companies like MELCO, Macau International Airport Co. Ltd., Venetian Macau, East Sun Cleaning, Roosevelt, Galaxy Entertainment Groups, COD, and Studio City. There were also some domestic helpers who lost their jobs since their employers were also terminated from their work.  For donations, please feel free to contact Sis. Maria Rosa Viloria at landline number  28573778.
