It was a lively reunion on the feast of Epiphany, when Father Daniel Ruiz Cerezo, MCCJ, returned to St Lazarus parish to celebrate the Sunday Mass. Fr Daniel flew back to his home country Spain the next day (January 7).
St Lazarus being his first parish in Macau from 1993 to 1998, Fr Daniel paid a special visit by the invitation of the parish priest of St Lazarus to come back and say goodbye to all the faithful.
After his stint in St Lazarus, he went on to the Pastoral Center with Fr Corrado de Robertis in Areia Preta from 1998-1999 to prepare the mission in the northern part of Macau, where St Joseph the Worker’s Church was built in 1999.
He also went to Taiwan to study Mandarin, as well as to collaborate with Fr Lancelote M Rodrigues for the work in the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in Macau until the service was closed.
As for future prospects, Fr Daniel said he is expecting a fruitful sabbatical leave in Spain. He will also take this opportunity to strengthen his studies in spirituality, and will share his spiritual experience in Asia in his home country, as well as serve in different places in Spain.
As for the timing of returning to Macau, “I will definitely come back again,” Fr Daniel stated clearly to Clarim.
