On 23 May, Thursday, at 6:00 PM, the Historical Society of the Independence of Portugal (SHIP) handed a diploma to O Clarim for its “unequivocal and praiseworthy work … in the dissemination of the Portuguese Language and Culture in Macau” and enrolled the diocesan weekly as an Honorary Member of SHIP.
The Historical Society of the Independence of Portugal (SHIP) is a statutory association of public interest aimed at enhancing and disseminating the values of Portugal, particularly in the area of Sciences, Letters and Arts. The Society had decided to grant the diploma during its General Assembly on 11 April 2019.
The diploma was conferred during the commemoration of the Society’s 185th anniversary and the 840th anniversary of the recognition of the foundation of Portugal by Pope Alexander III in 1179 through the Bull Manifestis probatum. O Clarim Director Father José Mario O. Mandía received the diploma on behalf of the newspaper.
