THEOLOGY 101 – Cathedral Faith Formation Program in English

Last February this year, the Macau Cathedral parish opened the Adult Faith Formation program for English-speaking church goers. After 10 months, 22 participants will soon be receiving their Program Completion Certificate. This Adult-Level Comprehensive Catholic Course teaches the doctrines of the Faith following the four pillars of the structure of the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

The Baptismal Profession of Faith (The Creed), The Sacraments of Faith, The Life of Faith (The Commandments), and The Prayer of the Believer (The Lord’s Prayer).

Each pillar or level is designed to be completed within a year. Participants come to the cathedral hall every Saturday evening from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The program comprises class lectures, group workshop, movie analysis, reflection papers and prayer sessions with faith-life experience sharing. The participants learn to appreciate their faith by also learning from each other’s faith experience. The participants are mixed groups of English-speaking Filipinos, Portuguese, Macanese, Mexicans, Indians and Chinese. After completing level 1 consisting of The Profession of Faith, the participants will be invited to join the level 2 which will introduce them to the Sacraments of the Church. This level will be another one-year long journey of studying together, sharing the faith and enjoying togetherness. The course facilitator, Fr Leonard Dollentas, is delighted that the group was able to pass the written periodic exams, and has shown diligence in studies. After their faith learning experience, most of them are more than willing to continue their formation.
