TRADITION OF OFFERING MASS FOR DECEASED IN THE DISCIPLINED SERVICES

The Church celebrates All Souls’ Day on November 2 each year. In Macau, following tradition, Bishop Stephen Lee Bun Sang presided over the memorial Mass for all deceased in the service of military and disciplined services. In his homily, the Bishop explained the meaning of death and eternal life to all the participants, who are mostly non-Catholic. He also said that “whenever we pay a visit to the cemetery, it reminds us about the meaning of life, and also reminds us we are also walking towards death… There is a very important aim in our lives, we have to do good and avoid evil, to prepare ourselves well for another life, a life of eternal happiness.” After Mass, Bishop Lee blessed the tombs of the deceased, including those of priests and nuns.
