The Catholic Church celebrated The Ascension of the Lord last Sunday, 13 May, which also happens to be the feast of Our Lady of Fatima. Faithful to the tradition that began in 1929, the Macau Diocese held the annual procession in devotion to Our Lady. Faithful from other places such as Hong Kong and Mainland China came to Macau to join the event.

In the homily of the feast day mass, Bishop Stephen Lee said Our Lady is spes nostra (“our hope”) because she has brought the true hope, Jesus, into this world. He said, “Mary lets us see Jesus, and the hope of Jesus is the pillar that sustains us.”

The Bishop continued, saying Our Lady accompanies us everyday. Just like the three children of Fatima, Our Lady protects us by the light she obtains from God. “Today, with this hope, we gather with a thankful heart and with the same goal, to pray to our Mother. This is our unity,” he added.

The procession started at St Domingos, passing through Praia Grande and Praia do Bom Parto, to Penha Hill, followed by adoration and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Bishop Lee blessed the attending faithful, as well as the whole city of Macau.
