MGM joined hands with Caritas Macau this Mother’s Day to send love and care to local senior citizens, where the Company have especially arranged an integrated resort hotel tour for seniors from the Lar de Cuidados “Sol Nascente” da Areia Preta, a nursing home under Caritas Macau. A group of over 30, including 16 seniors from the center and their family members visited MGM MACAU and toured around the property accompanied by Golden Lion Volunteer Team members. With the aim of acquainting these senior citizens to the diversified entertainment and leisure offerings in town and enrich their retirement home life, MGM also hopes to send the heartfelt festive greetings to each of them right in time for Mother’s Day.
During the tour, the senior citizens and their family members visited the Grande Praça, the MGM Aquarium and other hotel facilities, followed by a time to enjoy the crowd’s favorite show “Sea Odyssey”. The volunteers also prepared some interactive games for the visiting seniors and had lunch with them at Rossio. At the end of the tour, each of the senior citizens received a mini bouquet of carnation as a token of appreciation from MGM, drawing a heartening end to the tour.
Lar de Cuidados “Sol Nascente” da Areia Preta is a nursing home that provides high quality and comprehensive residential care services for frail and physically impaired seniors with high nursing care needs. On top of that, it also offers daycare and training services for people with cognitive impairment. To ensure that the seniors were well taken care of while having a great time at MGM MACAU, the Company has especially arranged volunteer team members who have taken part in a specific training program on taking care of senior citizens diagnosed with Dementia.
Co-organized by MGM and Caritas Macau, the above-mentioned training aims to give participating volunteers an insight of what Dementia is and how to properly communicate with patients. After the training, MGM then invited the 24 trained team members to visit nursery homes of Caritas Macau and interact with diagnosed seniors. These visits enable them to put theory into practice, making MGM’s volunteering services more comprehensive, diverse, and professional. This year, MGM also plans to launch a series of activities addressing Dementia to raise public awareness, where MGM volunteers will be encouraged to communicate with diagnosed seniors in the community and spread love and care to them.
Volunteer team member Chow Ting said, “In comparison to our regular visits to the center, inviting the senior citizens over to MGM Macau allowed both of us to spend more quality time together. It becomes more special as the visit coincided with Mother’s Day. I am grateful that I can take what I have learned into practice in this volunteering activity, where I get to truly interact with these seniors and know more about them in person. It is always uplifting to see them smiling from the bottom of their heart when we are around.”
