PRESIDENT MARCELO REBELO DE SOUZA’S BRIEF VISIT TO MACAO

Prof. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Republic of Portugal, took the time to receive the Chancellor, Bishop Lee, and the senior management of the University of Saint Joseph, during his brief visit to Macao.  In his speech at the official reception that followed, the Portuguese President called attention to how China and Portugal met in Macau, well before they met in either Beijing or Lisbon.  In fact, he added, the city has for 500 years hosted a persistent dialogue between these two peoples and their longstanding cultures, while respecting their differences.  So, as we look to the future, schools and universities are playing a vital role in that ongoing exchange – and he singled out the Portuguese School of Macau and the University of Saint Joseph.
