ASSOCIATION OF MACAU CATHOLIC SCHOOLS – Honoring the mentors

The Association of Macau Catholic Schools held this year’s Teacher’s Development Day on Monday, 10 September 2018 in the afternoon at the Multisport Pavilion of the Macau Polytechnic Institute. More than 2,000 persons attended the event which signaled the official beginning of the academic year for twenty-six Catholic schools serving more than 10,000 students.

The ceremony was presided by Macau Bishop H.E. Stephen Lee,  and graced by the presence of Macau Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Dr Alexis Tam Chong Wen, Liaison Office Secretary-General Wang Xindong, and Macau Education and Youth Affairs Bureau Director Lou Pak Sang.

Bishop Lee spoke of the challenges that face educators today, and cited the importance of the teachers’ own example for educating children so that they may become responsible adults.

Dr Alexis Tam expressed his gratitude to the Diocese of Macau for its close cooperation with the government in the educational field. He cited the willingness of the diocese to let all the Catholic schools form part of the educational network, thus enabling many students to benefit from the support of the government.

A talk by Dr Sylvi Chen Chia Lu imparted useful practical and spiritual tips for all those in attendance.

Awards were given to teachers for their dedication and service: 23 teachers received an award for 25 years of service, seven teachers for 30 years, eight for 35 years, eight for 40 years, and three for 45 years.
