GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY – The Catholic Diocese of Macau Celebrates 63rd Day of Prayer for Vocation

The 63rd Universal Prayer for Vocation was be held on 26 April (Good Shepherd Sunday). The diocesan held the Eucharist at 3.00 pm on that day at the Cathedral of the Nativity of our Lady, with special prayers for universal and diocesan vocation intentions. After the Mass, the congregation showed their tribute to the clergy and religious who celebrated this year’s anniversaries of their ordinations and professions to the religious life: diamond, gold and silver jubilee, and thanked them  for their faithful service and contribution to the life and mission of the diocese.

The clergy and religious play a crucial role in the Catholic Diocese of Macau by providing spiritual leadership to the parishes, conducting worship services, administering sacraments, teaching and offering pastoral care. They are responsible for the spiritual well-being of the community of the faithful and play a key role in the mission of the diocese. The relationship between priests and religious is one of complementarity and reciprocity, where both serve the Church’s mission and contribute to the community’s holiness. The collaborative ministry of priests and religious is essential for the effective functioning of the diocese, as it increases the gains and harvests of mission while fostering a robust apostolate for the last 450 years.

Prayers for vocations are essential for the Church, asking God to call men and women to serve as priests, religious, and consecrated persons. These prayers help our faithful, particularly the young  to discern their own vocations and to support those who are called to serve the Church in these special ways.
