On January 2017, Donald Trump was not yet President of the United States. And at the United Nations, the US, and of course the European Union, had carried out a heavy lobbying action to ensure that the international body set up, for the first time, an “independent” expert who oversees the global level of respect for “Rights” of LGBT communities. The amendment passed with a decidedly reduced majority (84 against 77, and 16 abstentions) and the Assembly also rejected an amendment tabled by fifty African countries that demanded that the powers of the expert be precisely defined and limited.

Croatia, Hungary and Poland had requested and obtained not to be subjected to undue interventions regarding their legislation concerning the family and marriage. For them, the family and marriage are only those between men and women.

Thai expert, homosexual and LGBT activist law professor and lawyer Vitit Muntarbhorn made his debut in recent days at a meeting attended only by members of the countries that had voted in favor. The opponents refused to endorse his activity.

Vitit Muntarbhorn, among other things, found a LifeSiteNews article which spoke regarding the possible contrast between LGBT rights and the right to opinion and religious freedom that “that there are some absolute rights, but there are others that are not absolute.” Among these were freedom of expression and religious freedom, which can be limited, if necessary. One can think, as far as Christianity is concerned, that the reference is to the passages of the Bible that condemn homosexuality, including the passage from the letter of St Paul to the Romans which appears particularly severe. One can think however that with the decisive change of line imposed by the Trump administration, and consequently with the lack of US support, the Thai activist’s role will have more limitations and obstacles than expected.


I had fun (so to speak) reading today on La Bussola Quotidiana a parable about faith, the Church and the modern world, written by Ettore Gotti Tedeschi. I advise you to read it, because perhaps you can find a key to understand what is happening (it has already happened), in many once-Christian countries, even in continents, like the South American one, which seemed so promising only a few decades ago, and now they have found a true escape from Catholicism (see Brazil, but not only).

You can also read some true, current stories in the background: the Communion and Liberation of Father Giussani, of the last quarter of the last century, just to understand each other; ecclesial forms such as Opus Dei, as well as other minor initiatives, secular and religious, which have as a characteristic that of not thinking of adapting to the modern world, if not in language, but rather of proposing a road that is not convenient, not captivating , but that responds to everyone’s needs for truth. And this is, nowadays, often not welcomed by Church leaders.

In the parable we speak of a priest who created a successful mission where it seemed impossible, between those who deal only with business and not with God. He had such success that, as he grew older, he decided to send a young priest to Rome to study and the young priest, after many studies, decided that the old model would no longer work.

“The old holy priest tried to object stammering that his churches were full and the vocations were growing. The answer was immediate: ‘Only for a short time, I saw it happen in Rome. It is a matter of little time, it is essential to anticipate the next problems.’ The old priest had no forces to argue and the arguments were so scientific and determined that they seemed strong and convincing. In a few months the liturgy of the Mass was modernized, it progressively passed to brief and comprehensive confessions for every sin, the penances were abandoned, communion was started in the hands of anyone, the homily in the Mass was oriented to the reinterpretation and updating of the Gospels and focused on the importance of subjective consciousness and on the understanding of God the Father who does not need our merit for the merits of the Son. But the faithful did not understand and like the changes. Gradually, the churches that the bishop had made available were emptied, the seminarians who had entered to become saints were converted to Protestant sects, contributions collapsed that it was a struggle to survive till the end of the month … “.
