Reverend Father Claude Lo passes away

Macau Diocesan priest Reverend Father Claude Lo (羅啟瑞神父) passed away from an illness in the morning of 13 December 2017 at the San Januario Hospital. He was 84.

Father Lo was born on 1 November 1933 in Hong Kong. He joined the St Joseph Seminary in 1949 and was ordained priest on 31 December 1961. From 1962 to 1965 he studied Church History and Liturgy in Rome at the Gregorian University from which he obtained a master’s degree.

Upon his return to Macau he was assigned to the St Joseph Seminary and was appointed vice rector after seven years. From 1973-1980, he served at the St Joseph Secondary School and was vice-principal for a few years. He would also go to Hong Kong each week to teach Church History at the Holy Spirit Seminary.

In 1979, he was named to the chapter (cabido) of the Macau Cathedral. In 1980 he headed the Chancery Office and was the editor of Aurora, the Diocesan Chinese-language newsletter. He was appointed parish priest of St Anthony Parish in 1989 and was named Vicar General by Bishop Domingos Lam on 4 December 1990. From 27 May 2005 onwards, he retired because of illness.

Vespers will be recited for his soul on December 18 at 8 PM, and the funeral Mass will be held on December 19 at 11 AM. Both will be held at the Macau Cathedral.
